Project Data - Chengshan

Located in Chengshan Town, Rongcheng City, Shandong Province, People’s Republic of China, the Chengshan Wind Power project delivers zero-emissions renewable electricity to China’s North China Power Grid. The project is validated and verified to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and has also registered and issued credits with the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)

The wind farm consists of 33 turbines, each with individual capacity of 1.5 MW, for a combined capacity of 49.5 MW, generating nearly 90,000 tonnes of annual emission reductions. Wind power is produced by transferring the kinetic energy from wind to rotors. The mechanical energy from the wind turbines’ rotating blades then powers an electric generator. The project also improves the overall local air quality as wind farms do not incur the environmental pollution, such as sulphur dioxide, or solid waste problems associated with coal-fired power plants.

The wind farm has contributed to the local economy and livelihood of residents through the creation of jobs – approximately 24 employees are currently working in full-time operational roles, while 55 additional workers were required during the construction period for planning, security and construction.

Shandong Province, a coastal province located in the east, is one of the most populous and wealthy states in China. Shandong is the biggest industrialproducer and one of the top manufacturing provinces but also ranks as the largest consumer of fossil fuels in all of China. Increasing the state’s renewable energy capacity is integral to meeting Shandong’s increasing energy requirements with a sustainable energy source
